As I talked about in my last post, it can be really hard to not like modern media. You see all of the movies with your favorite actors, of course rated R. You see all the new albums coming out, more often than not, explicit. So, in response to the last post, here is a list of all of my favorite artists, TV shows, and movies that aren't alternatives for me. If given the option, I think these media outlets are far better than some of the popular choices today. Here's a few of my favorite pastimes in the media world. It is super refreshing to be able to watch or listen to these without worrying about anything vulgar popping up. Not all of the TV shows or movies are Christian, but they are still great and clean.
Music 1. For King and Country: Priceless This band is amazing and I love all of their music, especially this song Priceless. They even released a movie recently based on the song. The guys in the band did a convocation at Liberty University recently (link in the name) and they are super fun. I follow their IG page, @forkingandcountry, so feel free to check 'em out. 2. Elevation Worship: Open Up Our Eyes This group has written so many of my favorite worship songs, but Open Up Our Eyes is one of my faves. Again, you can check out all their music on iTunes. 3. Hollyn: Steady Me Okay, guys, even my brother likes this song, so you know that when we agree, it has to be amazing. Hollyn is a relatively new singer, but her songs are so relatable and are great for young Christians. Her sound is modern, which I love, but her lyrics are even better. 4. Chris Sligh: Empty Me This is an older song, but the lyrics are so great. Chris was actually a finalist on the sixth season of American Idol, (which, in the 2000s, was big because who honestly didn't watch Idol). He is an incredible singer and everyone needs to listen to this song. TV 1. Last Man Standing Tim Allen has absolutely killed this show. It is all about Mike, played by Tim Allen, and his family of a wife and three girls. It is finally a show that caters to a conservative audience in a liberal world. Throw in some touches of Christianity, and this is the show I always turn on once I come home... usually right after Home Improvement :). You can find it on the Hallmark Channel, or Freeform (a little ironic seeing as how liberal the channel is, but it is refreshing for sure). 2. The Middle This show is hilarious. I compare it totally to my own family, minus Brick. Frankie is too relatable and the family's antics are too funny because they really aren't that much different than the problems all of us face on a daily basis. I am watching this show as I write and I am laughing by myself. Also, you can watch this show on Hallmark or Freeform. Movies 1. The Resurrection of Gavin Stone I actually saw this one in theaters with my parents a bit ago and I loved it. An actor struggling with his own problems is forced into a church for community service, and a great plot follows. It is funny without the vulgarity of other secular comedies, and the core message of the movie reaches even the hardest heart. 2. The Greatest Game Ever Played This is one of my favorite movies ever. It is about a young guy, played by Shia Labeouf, and his talent for the sport of golf. It is set in the early 1900s and I really can't say more without spoiling anything. Just go watch this movie, it's great. 3. Secretariat Yes, this is another historic movie, but it is just so good. Diane Lane plays Penny Tweedy/Chenery who is adamant on keeping this one racehorse despite all of the challenges. It's based on a true story and honestly I think I'm going to go pop the disc in now... I really hope you guys like these suggestions and If you have any more that you really like, or if you want more suggestions, comment below or hit me up on Twitter or Instagram, @simplysydblog, and let me know what you think!
